Journeys End Vineyards objective is to develop a strong, lasting
and profitable relationship with many partners on a global basis,
and consequently it seeks expressions of interest from parties who
would like to develop export markets in their countries. Journeys
End Vineyards wishes to develop realistic growth expectations and
work with people who understand how to handle and care for wine. We

The name "Journeys End" and its assosciation
with vineyards has its inception in a little known poem by C.P. Cavafy,
simply titled "Ithaka." In this short but powerful work,
Cavafy captures the essence of the Journey which life is, in all of its
joys and dissappointments - or more exactly, the journey which we make
of it. For as Cavafy so correctly points out - all of life's potentials
begin within the human heart and their final culmination - the Journeys
End - should be a time of celebration and reflection and never despair.
There are many similarites in the 'life' of a vineyard. Each year is a
new journey with new expectations and hopes, new learning experiences
and challenges. The journey from vine to bottle is a long and often anxious
one, the ending of which marks the beginning of a new cycle, a new season.
And just as each bottle in itself marks the end of another year, each
Journeys End label also reflects a different aspect of that journey -
from the careful preparation of new cuttings to the relief felt in picking
the last bunch of the harvest and finally, the ecstatic escape to Maslin
Beach. We hope that Cavafy's poem "Ithaka" offers you
a similar inspiration as it did to us, and you find yourself returning
to it often over a bottle of wine. |

As you set out for Ithaka,
hope your road is a long one,
full of adventure, full of discovery.
Laistrygonians, Cyclops,
angry Poseidon dont be afraid of them:
youll never find things like that on your way
as long as you keep your thoughts raised high,
as long as a rare excitement
stirs your spirit and your body.
Laistrygonians, Cyclops,
wild Poseidon you wont encounter them
unless you bring them along inside your soul,
unless your soul sets them up in front of you.
Hope your road is a long one.
May there be many summer mornings when,
with what pleasure, what joy,
you enter harbours you are seeing for the first time;
may you stop at Phoenician trading stations
to buy fine things,
mother-of-pearl and coral, amber and ebony,
sensual perfume of every kind
as many sensual perfumes as you can;
and may you visit many Egyptian cities
to learn and go on learning from their scholars.
Keep Ithaka always in your mind.
Arriving there is where youre destined for.
But dont hurry the journey at all.
Better if it lasts for years,
so youre old by the time you reach the island,
wealthy with all youve gained on the way,
not expecting Ithaka to make you rich.
Ithaka gave you the marvelous journey.
Without her you wouldnt have set out.
She has nothing left to give you now.
And if you find her poor, Ithaka wont have fooled you.
Wise as you will have become, so full of experience,
youll have understood by then what all these Ithakas mean.
- C.P. Cavafy
